A quick review of the River Rock Casino's Breakfast Buffet in Vancouver, BC. For more info on the buffet: Music By: J. Currently Closed – The Buffet at River Rock features a large variety of all your favourite dishes, seasonal and special surprises and delights. Over the years, it has become a popular destination to enjoy a special occasion with friends and family, and for resort guests it’s a proven crowd-pleaser.
The Buffet at the River Rock Casino is one restaurant that I have visited countless of times. Back when they opened many years ago, there was a 2-for-1 deal for their buffet. My immediate and extended family took advantage of it and I end up going to to the River Rock Casino buffet multiple times a week for a few weeks. I had also been there for Christmas dinner and New Year's Eve dinner. My impression of The Buffet was that it was very good when it opened but the quality had waned a bit over the years with its popularity. It was and still is one of the more decent casual buffets in the city and has a good enough selection to satisfy varying tastes. Recently, I had the opportunity to revisit River Rock Casino buffet for their Friday Surf and Turf Night courtesy of Chinesebites.com. I'll be highlighting parts of the buffet including the seafood, meat, sushi and dessert sections.
Disclosure: I was invited to attend a media event. All food was complimentary. Opinions are my own.
Seafood Sections
The seafood section is the most impressive with hot and cold selections. The cold seafood options are presented on a table near the salad bar and there are crab legs, cocktail shrimp, clams and mussels. All the items seem well stocked by the staff so you don't feel the need to rush and get more.
The hot seafood options are in a food warmer along the wall and include seafood polenta, salmon and crab. My favourite was the seafood polenta which was creamy, soft, smooth and comforting.
Meat Section
River Rock Casino Buffet Review
The meat section features a prime rib carving station. The prime rib was nicely tender and has some pink in the middle.
Sushi Section
River Rock Casino Buffet Reviews
The sushi section had a variety of rolls and sashimi. I decided to forgo the sushi items and focus on the seafood and prime rib.
Dessert Section
Desserts are a plenty at the River Rock casino buffet. There are assorted cakes, tarts, puddings, and jello. I was particularly drawn to these little cupcakes!
Price per Person
The Buffet is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Chef's Choice of Surf and Turf happens Friday and Saturday nights from 5 pm to 10 pm. Adults are $39.95, seniors $23.95 and kids $13.95. Encore card members get a discount.
My plates
My Round was purely Surf and Turf. Plenty of protein on this plate! I got full rather quickly.
Then I went for a plate with a variety of desserts. I really liked how the items were small because it is easy to not finish a dessert if you don't like it.
Overall Impression of River Rock Casino Buffet
All in all, I thought the buffet was okay for the price and for a Friday night meal (around $50 after tax and tip). I personally would just stick to eating the seafood and roast carvings, which is what the theme of the buffet is. Rating: ⅗
